Elmer Painley, Greensburg, Pa.
Elmer Painley, 93 of Greensburg, Pa. formerly of Uniontown, Pa. passed away with his loving family by his side in Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, Pa. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
He was born May 19, 1931 in West Leisenring, Pa.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph and Irene Bella Painley.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Barbara Krosni Painley; children, Kathleen Sandorf and husband Michael, Carolyn Brittingham and husband Kim, Joseph Painley, Mary Beth Sharp and husband John, Ann Larochelle and husband Jim, and Jennifer Robba and husband David; 15 grandchildren, Jonathan (Casey), Jessica, Taylor, Eric (McKenzie), Megan, Erin (Bobby), Adam, Josh (Jessica), Andrew (Christien), Matthew, Jacob (Juliana), Allison, Sydney (Micah), Alex, and Grace; 4 great grandchildren, Catherine, Nicholas, Elias and Owen; sister, Cecelia Sages, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elmer graduated from North Union High School, and he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He was employed as a project engineer at Rockwell International/Sensus Technologies until he retired. Elmer enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He often reminisced about his adventures with his special cousin, Raymond Painley, at West Leisenring and Notre Dame. During his earlier years, he found pleasure in hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. It was an honor for him to serve as a Eucharistic Minister and prayer group leader. He spent his time in recent years working on crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, and wood crafts. He delighted in telling jokes to everyone he encountered. Above all, he loved the Lord, and he was a faithful servant of God.
The family will receive friends and family in the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said. His Funeral Mass follows at 10:00 a.m. in Saint John the Evangelist Church, 50 Jefferson Street, Uniontown, Pa.
Interment will follow in Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
A special “Thank You” to caregiver and friend, Amy Hayden. Additionally, Thank you to the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff at Mercy Hospital, Westmoreland Hospital, and Westmoreland Manor Nursing Home.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
