Gary Wayne Swaney Sr., Uniontown, Pa.

     Gary Wayne Swaney Sr., 73 of Uniontown, Pa., died Wednesday, May 1, 2024 in Uniontown, Pa. with his loving family by his side. He was born March 9, 1951 in Georges Township, Pa.

     Preceding him in death were his parents, Russell and Sara Swaney and his brother, Les Swaney.

     Left to cherish his memory are his son, Gary Swaney Jr. and wife Aliza of Hinesville, Ga.; three grandchildren, Christopher Boring of Smithfield, Pa., Danielle Boring of Morgantown, W.Va., and Gary Swaney III (his little buddy) of Hinesville, Ga.; one great grandchild, Ariana Boring of Smithfield, Pa.; three sisters, Patrica Tabacsko and her husband, Robert of Fairchance, Pa., Betty Salisbury of Fairchance, Pa., and Pamela Myers and her husband Walter of Uniontown, Pa.; two brothers, Russell Swaney and Carolyn of Hopwood, Pa. and George Swaney and Tammy of Lemont Furnace, Pa.; his close friends, Chris and Angie Baker of Hopwood, Pa. and Judy Snyder; many nieces and nephews, and several musician friends that he considered family.

     Gary graduated in 1969 from Fairchance-Georges High School and began working with US Steel in Homestead, Pa.

     He was employed/retired as a coal miner and took pride in his membership with the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) union.

     Gary enjoyed music and greatly valued his time playing drums with several bands from the area throughout his life.

     A special thanks to Carol Gregory and the Staff at Village Heights in London, Ky.

     Friends will be received in the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. 15436 on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. the hour of service with Pastor Kevin Summers officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukodystrophy Foundation, Dementia Research, or WVU Hospice.
