Gene Gary Swaney, of Hopwood, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in the early morning of March 10, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born on December 19, 1941, and raised in Fairchance, Pennsylvania, Gene proudly served his country as a member of the Big Red One during the Vietnam War. His strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication defined both his service and his life.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved son, Dr. Eric Swaney, whom he now joins in eternal rest, as well as by his siblings Alice Miller, William “Jake” Cooley, Clifton “Cag” Cooley, Norma Jean Laberdee, Duane “Fizz” Swaney, and Ronald “Inch” Swaney.
He is survived by his daughter, Gina Lynn Parker; his son, Dr. Alan Swaney; and his cherished granddaughters, Emma “Ollie” Parker, Drew Ellison, and Regan Ellison. Gene’s memory will also live on through his surviving brothers Jackie Swaney and Jerry Swaney.
Known to be selective in companionship, Gene valued his friendship with neighbors Tom and Wilma Haragos as well as the care of his nieceCharlotte Miller; and in his final years, Gene’s home was warmed by the presence of his cat Bub.
