Janet Rae Maldovan, 83, of Smithfield, PA, was welcomed into Heaven on Sunday, April 19th, 2026.
Janet was born on December 27th, 1942, in Uniontown PA, the daughter of Harry Matthews and Margaret (Bierer) Matthews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband John “Rich” Maldovan, brother George “Pork” Matthews, and sister Joan Vanetta.
Janet is survived by her children Butch (Tracey) Maldovan of Fairchance, Cissy (JR) Jarrett of Smithfield, Shelly Faris of Smithfield, and Jason (Celena) Maldovan of Smithfield, grandchildren Tori (Tyler) Pericho, Jessica (Matthew) Testa, Kira Eicher, Paige Eicher, Cody Jarrett, Richard “Pierce” Maldovan, and 9 great grandchildren. Janet is also survived by her siblings Harriet (Calvin) Stark, Sonny (Carmen) Matthews, Linda “Bubbles” Sanders, Jim (Joyce) Matthews, and Teresa (Tom) Tanner as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Janet dedicated much of her life to serving others. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and volunteered as an EMT for the Smithfield Fire Department. She was a member of the Great Bethel Baptist Church in Uniontown and attended bible study at the CMA Church of Morgantown for many years.
Janet was an avid traveler, especially cherishing trips to Rehobeth Beach with her family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, bird watching, Elvis and The Gaither Vocal Band, and cheering the Pittsburgh Steelers on - but only if they were winning. She hosted large Christmas Eve gatherings for over 50 years and never let you leave her home with an empty stomach. She had a heart of gold, a twinkle in her eye, and a quiet sense of humor that will be missed.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her caretakers whose kindness and dedication brought comfort to her final years.
Janet was known by many and loved by all. Her memory will be cherished forever.
The family will receive friends and family at Great Bethel Baptist Church, 47 West Fayette Street, Uniontown, Pa. on Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mac Reed and Pastor Ken Jones officiating.
Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa.
