Jerry "Denny" Tate Obituary

Jerry Dennis “Denny” Tate, Haydentown, Pa.

Jerry Dennis “Denny” Tate, 89 of Haydentown, Pa. went to be with our Lord and Savior on June 9, 2025.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Sondra Lilley Tate; two daughters, Cindy Lee Dawson and husband Gerry of Smithfield, Pa. and Penny Marie Hartman and husband Donald of Smithfield, Pa. and son, Arthur Lilley and wife Betty of Smithfield, Pa.; four grandchildren, Mandy Lacey (Randy) of Fairchance, Pa., Amber Glisan (Travis), Shawna Seese (Gary) all of Smithfield, Pa., and Zackary Dawson (Liz) of Edmond, OK; twelve great grandchildren, Harlie Vance, Ariel Lacey, Abbey Vance, Caden Lacey, Jake Glisan, Mya Glisan, Logan Seese, Ellie Seese, Ava Dawson, Ryan Dawson, Gabe Seese and John Dawson; two great great grandsons, Tate Ruscin and Graydon Green; two sisters, Bonnie Reese of Virginia and Vicki Rose of Confluence, Pa.; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews and grandson, Michael Lilley.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Marshall and Golda Tate; brother, Henry “Toby” Tate and son, Ronald J. “Duke” Lilley and grandson, Master Sergeant Arthur Lilley.

To meet him was to love him, cause Denny never met a stranger. He was a great historian who had many stories of his 89 years to share!

He was a loving husband, Dad, Pap, great Pappy, great great Pappy and was admired for his caring nurturing ways. His legacy will live on for decades yet to come through the many generations he created and shared with Sondra.

He was an avid hunter with trips out west and in the mountains of Fayette County and at his camp in Elk County. He took pride in his many mounts that dawn the walls of his home of his successful hunts.

Denny was a hard worker starting in the saw mill, then driving truck at Vesko stone quarry, worked later at the railroad, then to finish his working career as a coal miner working for Robenna and retired from Consol/Dilworth mine in 1997.

He was a Pennsylvania Forest Fire Warden for decades, a member of the Barton Hollow Hunting Club and Mountain Lodge.
