Joan Louise Smith, Smithfield, Pa.
Our beloved, Joan Louise Smith, of Smithfield, Pa. passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9th, 2026. She was deeply loved and cherished throughout her entire life right up to the time of her passing.
Born on July 7th, 1939 in Beaver Falls, Pa. to the late Sara and Leroy Liberty.
She was employed at the Houze Glass Factory in Point Marion for several years. After retirement, she went onto work at Wal-Mart, her absolute favorite place. She enjoyed spending time with family, shopping, and eating fast food. She also had a very special best friend, Doris, who she spoke to daily. All those that knew “Gram” loved Gram. She was our everything and will always be.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George J. Smith, who was the love of her life. They will now be together again. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Johnny, Bucky, Ronnie, and Billy and one sister, Shirley.
She is survived by one brother, Donald “Butchy” Liberty (Sandy) of New Brighton and two sisters, Donna Beckert and Diane Elko, both of New Brighton.
Left here to cherish her loving memory are children: Deborah J. Oravets (James) of Smithfield, Veronica Summerfield (Franklin) of Cartersville, Georgia, and Connie Smith of Smithfield; grandchildren: James Oravets II (Annie) of Smithfield, Christopher Oravets (Jennifer) of Smithfield, Bobbie Jo Johnson (Bill) of Uniontown, Brittany Shields (Brandon) of Smithfield and Ronnie Summerfield of Cartersville, Georgia and great grandchildren: Lyla, Dylan, and Willow Oravets, Dylan and Alivia Shields, Howie and Fletcher Johnson, and Theo Oravets.
The family will receive friends and family in the Dean C. Whitmarsh Funeral Home, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa. on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, February 13, 2026 until 9:15 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said. Her Funeral Mass follows at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 180 Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown, Pa. Entombment will follow in Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery Mausoleum.
