Larry James Gates, Uniontown, Pa.
Larry James Gates went home to be with his Lord, with his family by his side, on May 9, 2024.
He was born August 19, 1957 in Fort Huachuca, AZ, the son of Kenneth Gates, Sr. and Dorothy (Handschumaker) Gates.
Larry was a graduate of Fairchance-Georges High School and after a time serving in the US Army he settled in Uniontown. He had a long career as a truck driver, including many years spent driving for Ames Department Stores and Estees Express Lines. When he wasn’t driving truck, he was often found washing, waxing or driving his Corvette. He was most proud of the beautiful family he built with the love of his life, Shree. His three children remember him as a man of great character and strength who never hesitated to tell them how much he loved them and was proud of them.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shree (Swaney) Gates, his parents and his brother Ed Gates. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Jessie Gates, Lacey Krysak, and Garrett Gates (wife Claire), his sister Sandy Appleby, and his brother Kenny Gates (wife Mary), as well as his six beloved grandchildren: Maggie, Jude, Dmitri, Milo, Alice, and Otto, who will miss their Pappy dearly and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life, Thursday, May 16th at the Amvets Post 103 in Hopwood. A time of visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a service celebrating his life at 6:00 p.m.
